Common Dogwood (Cornus Sanguinea) is a larger sized variety of dogwood with attractive red/green stems and stunning red autumn leaf colour following the green summer foliage. The white flowers in spring give way to small black berries. As with all dogwoods best planted in clusters or as a hedge to give the most impact.

Use for... splashes of colour in beds and borders or as informal hedges and often seen in native hedgerows.

Growth rate... average to fast 30-50cm per year.

Ideal hedge height... Common Dogwood (Cornus Sanguinea) is suitable for hedges between 120-300cm in height.

Situation & soil... Common Dogwood (Cornus Sanguinea) will tolerate most soils and situations but especially chalky soil and wet sites. We recommend Rootgrow and Bonemeal when planting to get your new hedge off to a great start.

Plant description... these are young two year old bare rooted plants 60-90cm high, economical and easy to transport and plant. A typical bundle of these plants may be seen in the photo above.

Planting distance... for a Common Dogwood (Cornus Sanguinea) hedge we recommend 3 plants per metre for a single row or for planting in groups we recommend 3 to 5 plants per square metre.

Planting season... these bare rooted plants are supplied during the correct planting season from November until early April.

Trim in... spring every other year.
