Pyracantha Orange (Pyracantha ‘Orange Glow’) is a large, thorny, strong-growing evergreen shrub of upright habit. It has glossy green leaves with clusters of small, white flowers in early summer, followed by long-lasting orange berries in autumn.
Also known as Firethorn ‘Orange Glow’, Pyracantha Orange is ideal for use as security hedging as it forms a dense, prickly hedge. It can also be trained up against a wall. Orange Glow is extremely tough and hardy which makes it suitable for a range of demanding conditions, including shaded and exposed positions. It is also a favourite among wildlife, birds in particular, due to its long-lasting, bright orange berries.
With an average growth rate, Pyracantha Orange (Pyracantha ‘Orange Glow’) will grow around 30cm to 60cm per year. It has an ultimate height of 2.5 metres and an ultimate spread of 2.5 metres, taking as long as 20 years to reach its ultimate height and spread.
When growing Pyracantha Orange (Pyracantha ‘Orange Glow’) it will thrive best in well-drained, or moist but well-drained fertile soil in sun or partial shade, and is tolerant of pollution.
As a hedging plant, we recommend planting Pyracantha Orange (Pyracantha ‘Orange Glow’) 3 plants per metre in a single row, or 5 plants for a double staggered row and trimming between May and July.
