Pyracantha Mohave is a large, thorny evergreen plant with upright growth and glossy green leaves. In late spring handfuls of small, white flowers cover the plant, followed by orange-red berries in autumn and winter. This variety is resistant to Fireblight and Pyracantha scab.
Also known as Firethorn, Pyracantha Mohave is ideal for use as security hedging as it forms a dense, prickly hedge. Due to its upright growth it can also be trained against a wall. It features panicles of small, white flowers and glossy orange berries attract an array of wildlife, including bees and other insects, and birds.
A fast growing hedging plant, Pyracantha Mohave will grow on average 30cm to 60cm per year. It has an ultimate height of 3 metres and an ultimate spread of 3 metres, taking up to 20 years to reach its ultimate height and spread.
When growing Pyracantha Mohave it will thrive best in any well-drained, or moist but well-drained soil in sun or part shade. It's tough and hardy nature makes it suitable for a range of demanding conditions including shaded and exposed positions.
As a hedging plant, we recommend planting Pyracantha Mohave 3 to 4 plants per metre in a single row, and trimming in late winter.
