Osmanthus Burkwoodii (Osmanthus x Burkwoodii) is a large, slow-growing evergreen shrub which makes an excellent medium sized hedge or garden decoration.
The hedge is distinctive, with small, shiny deep green foliage and a profusion of highly scented, white flowers which develop in the spring. These are occasionally followed by small black fruits which are popular with wildlife; often a good way of attracting to birds and bees to a garden.
Osmanthus Burkwoodii can be planted in sand, chalk and clay soil, and are also adaptable to both acidic and alkaline pH soil. It is a popular choice of hedging due to its hardy nature and sweetly scented flowers, which are great for creating an informal garden border.
Osmanthus Burkwoodii take around 10 to 20 years to reach full maturity and can grow to heights of 2.5 to 4 metres. It grows well in both direct sunlight and partial shade, and is best planted away from prolonged exposure to cold winds.
