Home HYDRANGEA MOPHEAD RED

Hydrangea Mophead Red (Hydrangea Masja) is a bushy, deciduous shrub with glossy, dark green foliage that is tinted red in the autumn. In mid to late summer, large, pinky-red flowerheads are produced, blooming all the way through until early autumn.

Also known as ‘Red Masja’, Hydrangea Mophead Red (Hydrangea Masja) is ideal for use as individual border shrubs, or informal hedging. Due to its hardy nature, Hydrangea Mophead Red (Hydrangea Masja) can tolerate most places throughout the UK, and can withstand temperatures down to as little as -15°C.

When growing Hydrangea Mophead Red (Hydrangea Masja) it will thrive best in any moist but well-drained soil in partial shade; although can also be grown in sun if the soil remains reliably moist. Soil pH will affect the flower colour; a dark pink in alkaline soil or a lighter pink in acidic soil.

As a hedging plant, we recommend growing Hydrangea Mophead Red (Hydrangea Masja) 2 plants per metre, and pruning in the spring removing all flower heads, before repeating again in autumn. Hydrangea Mophead Red (Hydrangea Masja) has an ultimate height of 1 metre and an ultimate spread of 1 metre, and can take up to 10 years to reach its ultimate height and spread.

When purchased from Hedgingplants.com nursery, Hydrangea Mophead Red (Hydrangea Masja) plants are available as 20 to 30cm high plants in 2 litre pots; and available all year round, where stocks allow.
