Holly Green (Ilex aquifolium) is a recognisable prickly evergreen shrub or small tree that we tend to associate with Christmas. It has deep green leaves that provide an excellent backdrop to the vibrant red berries in winter.
Commonly known as Holly, Common Holly and English Holly, Holly Green (Ilex aquifolium) is ideal for use as tidy dense hedging or as an ornamental shrub. Due to its adaptive nature, Holly Green (Ilex aquifolium) is great at adapting to different conditions, and can usually be found in forests of Oak and in Beech hedges.
When growing Holly Green (Ilex aquifolium) hedging, it will thrive best in well-drained soil in a sunny position or in partial shade. As a hedging plant we recommend planting Holly Green (Ilex aquifolium) 3-5 plants per metre in a single row, and lightly pruning in late winter or early spring. Although it can also be trimmed mid summer too.
