PHOTINIA

Photinia is a very popular evergreen shrub which is often planted as an attractive informal hedging or specimen plant. With a distinct appearance, Photinia is a popular fast-growing addition in gardens and landscaping projects.

Photinia is a genus of around 40-60 species of small trees and large shrubs, which are part of the rose family. Photinias have an attractive appearance with small white flowers and young red shoots. Interestingly, the name Photinia originates from the Greek word ‘phoeinos’ for shiny; this is in reference to the glossy leaves which are often found in members of the species.

Photinia is a tolerant plant and can be planted in most soil varieties, including locations in partial shade, or direct sunlight. It will also grow well in both alkaline and acidic soil conditions. Because of its hardy nature, Photinia are easy plants to take care of and are a fantastic addition to any garden.

When it comes to planting Photinia, it is advisable to plant between autumn and spring months. The plant commonly flowers between April and May, but can be as late as June for some plants.

One of the most popular Photinia species is Photinia Red Robin (Photinia x fraseri Red Robin) which is available to order, delivered to your location.
