Yew Hedging Plants

English Yew (Taxus baccata) is one of the most traditional evergreen hedging plants. It is often seen in graveyards, or as topiary shaped hedging in the grounds of stately homes. English Yew (Taxus baccata) are small shrubs with dense, linear leaves. During the spring, small flowers bloom. Male flowers are a white yellow globe shape, whereas female plants begin green and bud-like, but become browner with age. Female plants also display distinctive red fruits during the autumn.

English Yew (Taxus baccata) make for fantastic topiary specimens due to their dense foliage and high tolerance to pruning. They can be planted in almost any soil, including chalk and clay. Planting locations can be in both direct sunlight and shade, which makes it a great choice for border hedging. It should be noted that almost all parts of a Yew are toxic to humans.
