Lavandula is a genus of 39 known species and is often used for culinary herbs and oils, as well as a popular addition to gardens and landscapes. The most popular Lavender species is Lavandula Angustifolia, the flowers of which are the most common representation of the colour lavender.

Lavender English Varieties (Lavandula) requires a sunny site with well drained soil for best effects and for attracting wildlife with the scented flowers. April and May are the recommended periods for planting Lavender, as the warmer soil allows the plant to develop quicker. The flower heads appear from June onwards.
When established, Lavender English Varieties (Lavandula) are particularly drought tolerant and ideal for any moderately fertile soil, including alkaline soils. It can also be planted in coastal locations or in chalky soils, although other challenging soils, such as clay, may damage plant life.
